Thanks Kaspersky Help! I could take the Exam

Sometimes you might have stuck in situation when the system is infected to such a degree that installing an antivirus solution is impossible. This is the worst case, and becomes extremely difficult to take step regarding troubleshooting.

Yesterday, it happened with me. I was trying to get a print out of an important attachment. The document was important as I needed it urgently for some academic reason. But after repeated attempt I couldn’t do so. Every print command ended with an error message. I restarted the system thinking it might fix the problem, OMG! It resulted into a big challenge.

The system failed to boot that time. And I was left with the blue-screen error. I was unable to come at a conclusion as what wrong I had done. I even had the Kaspersky security software installed on my system to protect it against Internet threats. Then, I called up a friend who is a bit tech savvy, he started the system in Safe Mode, and told me that it’s infected, and better you contact Kaspersky Support. I was really puzzled as I needed the document to take my exam paper in the afternoon.

Nevertheless, I dialed the Kaspersky number, and was lucky enough to get access to a technician on-demand. He instructed me to boot the system using the Kaspersky Rescue CD, thankfully I had it. I followed the troubleshooting steps, and the problem was resolved. The utility scanned the system software while booting to eradicate the most stubborn viruses and malware from it. It also optimized the performance. I thanked the suave technician who did a miracle for me.
I took the print out, and could reach the exam center on time. Thanks KasperskyHelp!

What’s Your Resolution for the Year 2012?

A new year, a new resolution, and a new experience! Are you the one, who makes and breaks resolution every time? I won’t keep myself aside, as I’m too sailing in the same boat.
How long one can stick with ones’ resolution is a matter of concern, but as a trend, the analysis is must about the past 2011, which most of the IT analysts have termed as “explosives”. The period saw the rise of “Hacktivism”, and prominent global agencies, namely, United Nations, security intelligence firm Stratfor, FBI contractor IRC Federal, US Defense contractor ManTech, and the CIA felt the heat of security breaches. The year also witnessed hacking of the phone devices and breaching of privacy, and name of a few celebrities, like Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis also sprung up in the media.

Going into the gong of New Year night, I was sitting with my HP PC wandering what should be the resolution for me. Though, I’m not as big as the enunciated, but after all, whatever I have on my system matters a lot for me. So, I decided to update the Kaspersky Internet Security which I had. But update procedure failed again and again with the error message “Network operation timed out” and it was starting afresh every time from 0% which leads to wastage of lots of bandwidth and time.

It baffled me a lot; lastly I left all, and started looking for online KasperskySupport. Thanks, Google, the bible of knowledge, navigated to a page, which was promising the same, I did no delay, and asked their technicians to fix the problem, and it was sorted out. They did so by merely configuring the Windows firewall settings.

How they performed the task, was nothing less than a magic for me. I was wondering how it can be resolved in such a quick and easy manner, which had puzzled me for hours.

Later, Kaspersky Help-desk offered me an article, mentioning what to do in case of Kaspersky Update issue. If you are an optimist, though I was not, and want to fix Kaspersky Update issue, then, here is something for you:

1. Check Internet connection: Check whether offline mode (Work Offline item) is enabled in Internet Explorer. Disable it.
2. Configure Firewall: Usually, the Windows Firewall is enabled for your safety, which sometimes may create problem with the update. Don’t disable, just configure it well.
3. Remove any other software, if running on the system.
4. Check whether Kaspersky Lab servers are accessible.
5. Uninstall Kaspersky and restore it back with the update.
Caution! If you are determined to remove Kaspersky, then do have a backup of the Windows Registry so as to handle any awkward situation. Better, use some third-party uninstallation tool rather than going manually through the Control Panel.
I’m hopeful, you will find a solution here, and start the New Year with a good resolution without compromising on data security.

So, no regret, but take a lesson, and stay protected, and achieve more!!!
